Chinese Foreign Ministry: Pines' speech on Hong Kong shows arrogance and hypocrisy

BEIJING (Reuters) - US Vice President Mike Pence's speech on Hong Kong is an arrogance and hypocrisy apart from political bias and lies, China said on Wednesday.

"The Chinese government firmly defends its sovereignty, integrity and development interests," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Qunyang told a press conference on Tuesday, stressing that Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang are purely China's internal affairs and China will never allow any External forces to intervene.

"We advise some Americans to take a good look at themselves in the mirror, acknowledge their internal problems, manage their affairs, stop talking nonsense about the world and stay away from tricks that don't benefit anyone as soon as possible."

The Chinese spokeswoman expressed her country's strong opposition and indignation at Pines' speech, which deliberately distorts China's social order, human rights and religious conditions and blatantly criticizes China's domestic and foreign policies.

Pines had claimed yesterday that China is "restricting rights and freedoms" in Hong Kong and that the United States stands with protesters there.
