On Sunday, thousands again went to the streets in Hong Kong against the government. The police reacted with severity.

On Sunday, thousands of people in Hong Kong once again protested against government and police violence. The police used tear gas and pepper spray against the crowd gathered in the touristy neighborhood of Kowloon. Some demonstrators were arrested by the police. Many rally participants wore masks, although the government of Carrie Lam has imposed a disguise ban.

At least one man was taken away by ambulance. In pictures you can see police of tear gas hit protesters rinsing their eyes with water from plastic bottles. Many of the luxury stores in the area had closed their shops and lowered the shutters for the protests.

Again, the police used water cannons with blue-colored water to mark the demonstrators.

For months, tens of thousands of people have been taking to the streets in Hong Kong and demonstrating for democracy. They accuse Lam of being too close to China's leadership in Beijing. There were repeated violent clashes between protesters and the police.

The rallies had begun in June as a resistance to a draft bill for extradition charges to the People's Republic of China. But the demonstrators also see general freedoms that the former British colony still enjoys since its transfer to China in 1997. Meanwhile, the protests are also directed against the government in Beijing.
