Election in Thuringia: AfD top candidate Höcke missed direct mandate

2019-10-27T22:22:42.568Z

The AfD is considered one of the winners of the state election in Thuringia. But chief executive Björn Höcke was subject to the CDU candidate in his constituency - and very clearly.

The Thuringian AFD country chief did not get a direct mandate in the state election: Björn Höcke received in his constituency Eichsfeld I after counting almost all constituencies about 21 percent of the first votes - and thus came in second place. The majority of votes got with almost 49 percent of the CDU candidate Thadäus king.

In the state elections, the AfD reached on Sunday 23.4 percent, making it the second strongest force. As recently as 2014, the party won 10.6 percent of the vote. However, since all parties had previously ruled out the possibility of forming a coalition with the AfD, they would not be able to form a government. Höcke is considered the spokesman of the folk-nationalist "wing" of the AfD (read all the news on the election in Thuringia in our news blog).

Also in the second votes landed the CDU in Höckes constituency, according to the statements, with a good 40 percent in first place. In second place was the AfD with about 22 percent, followed by the left with almost 18 percent.

Ramelow receives direct mandate back

Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow, however, has recaptured his direct mandate. He was after counting almost all electoral districts in his constituency Erfurt III with 42 percent of the votes far ahead. In second place came the CDU politician Dominik Kordon with 16.5 percent. Third place went to Marek Erfurth from the AfD with a good 14 percent.

The Christian Democrats won on Sunday after counting almost all electoral districts a total of 21 of the 44 constituency mandates, on which the voters decided with the first vote.
