Iraqi President Barham Salih considered that the draft electoral law is an essential basis for political and economic reform in the country.
In a statement quoted by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Information Office said that President Saleh, during his meeting today to discuss the draft electoral law, stressed the need to set a time limit for the completion of the project as a real popular and political demand and coordination with the United Nations in the technical side and benefit from expertise and experience in this area. Cases of manipulation and fraud, without prejudice to sovereignty and national decision, indicating that the formation of the Independent Electoral Commission must be away from politicization.
The statement pointed out that the meeting was attended by representatives of the United Nations, universities, trade unions, professional associations and a number of specialists during which extensive discussions to enrich the draft law with ideas to reach the final version, especially in terms of electoral districts and the formation of the Independent Electoral Commission.
