Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said that his country is capable of reacting strongly to US troops deployed in Lithuania on the borders of Belarus.
"Lithuanians must understand that we have enough strength and means to respond asymmetrically," Lukashenko was quoted as saying by the Belarusian news agency on Tuesday, commenting on the deployment of US tanks in Lithuania near the Belarusian border.
“Lithuanian politicians and the leadership of Lithuania should recognize that Belarus is considering different options to come up with answers not only about the deployment of US troops but also on the medium and long-term future,” Lukashenko said.
He pointed out that his country does not intend to seek help from other countries regarding the deployment of US military forces in Lithuania because these forces "are not able to compete with the Belarusian armed forces."
