Washington (CNN) - President Donald Trump received a mixture of cheers and boos when the camera focused him on the crowd in the World Series.

The president and first lady, Melania Trump, sat in a suite at the Nationals Park, along with some Republican members of Congress, including Rep. Steve Scalise, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Matt Gaetz, when they were shown on the screen video in the right garden during a greeting to veterans.

When a shot of the US troops appeared on the screen during the Nationals entry segment "Wave Your Caps", the stadium burst into cheers before Trump's image appeared.

The crowd's response changed to boos instead of applause, to which Trump smiled and continued saluting. The screen then returned to the troops and read, "Thank you for your service." The boos decreased, but they still existed.

After the greeting ended, people in some sections of the crowd angrily pointed to the suite in which Trump was sitting and chanted "lock him up."

In the garden seats, the shouts and choruses of "shut him up" sounded loud.

Trump was later seen watching intensely during the traditional presidential race, facing giant cartoons of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt in a race. President number 45 did not applaud when the character dressed as number 26 Teddy Roosevelt won.

Trump also did not participate in the “Baby Shark” greeting to National Gardener Gerardo Parra before his bats.

Trump's chef and frequent critic, José Andrés, threw the first ceremonial launch of the game. Although Trump did it in previous MLB games and was asked if he wanted to do it on Sunday, he rejected it and has not done so since he became president. Trump and the first lady arrived shortly after Andres made the first pitch.

The Trump departed before the top of the eighth inning.

Dan Merica, Paul LeBlanc, Veronica Stracqualursi, Maegan Vázquez and Joe Ruiz of CNN contributed to this report.
