Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that the foreign ministers of the guarantor countries “Russia, Iran and Turkey” renew their commitment to the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
Lavrov told a news conference in Geneva that the guarantor states confirm that the work of the Constitutional Discussion Committee must be carried out away from any external interference or impose timetables.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that there is no military solution to the crisis in Syria, and the commencement of the work of the constitutional discussion committee is a step in the political solution to the crisis, pointing out that only the Syrians decide the future of their country away from any external interference.
Zarif added that the guarantors of the Astana process should ensure that there is no outside interference in the work of the constitutional debate committee.
