Jennifer Fenton, spokeswoman for the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, announced that all members of the constitutional debate committee arrived in Geneva in preparation for the committee's meetings tomorrow.
Fenton confirmed in a press briefing today that the 150 members arrived, 50 representing the delegation supported by the Syrian government, 50 from other parties and 50 from civil society.
Pederson announced yesterday that the work of the Commission is based on fundamental principles that include respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and Security Council resolutions.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on 23 August that an agreement had been reached on forming a constitutional discussion committee, noting the Syrian government's efforts in this regard.
