(CNN Spanish) - A man deprived of liberty identified as Nery Orlando López Sanabria, also known as Magdaleno Fúnez, was killed last Saturday in a maximum security prison west of Tegucigalpa by several inmates, as he was registered in one of the cameras of security of the penal center, that soon was published in the social networks.

However, public relations authorities of the National Penitentiary Institute said they are investigating who leaked the video and published it on social networks, to deduce the responsibilities that, according to law, corresponds.

Magdaleno Fúnez, according to the authorities of the Ministry of Security, was one of the partners of the Cartel de los Valle, several of whose members were extradited and are imprisoned in the United States for drug trafficking crimes.

Carlos Chajtur, a lawyer from Fúnez, told CNN that the State is solely responsible for the murder of his defendant because he was in his custody and that they did not give him the security required to safeguard his life, even though at the time of finalization he had the prison police precincts around Fúnez.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Security, Luis Fernando Suazo, assured CNN that it is investigated what failed in security inside the center so that those deprived of liberty attacked Fúnez and took his life with a firearm and sharp tools.

The official added that all prison staff who were on duty at the time of the incident have been suspended and are under investigation.

He also said that those deprived of liberty who participated in the bloody act are already in the hands of the judicial authorities to determine the motives for the crime.

Suazo said Fúnez was going to be extradited to the United States.

Fúnez - who was in prison accused of money laundering, illegal possession of firearms and explosives and of which he had pleaded not guilty - was appointed during the trial of Antonio Hernández, brother of President Juan Orlando Hernández in alleged drug trafficking activities.

The alleged relationship between the two came to light in the trial against the president's brother in a New York court, where he was convicted of four crimes on October 18.

On the second day of this trial in New York, an agent of the United States drug control administration, the DEA, presented a notebook that would have been seized from Fúnez when he was captured and that allegedly contained details of all operations of drug trafficking allegedly delivered to Antonio Hernández.

The body of Fúnez is in deposit in the morgue of Tegucigalpa pending a DNA test that will be carried out by the authorities and, according to forensic medicine officials, the body will be delivered to their relatives within 15 days.
