The livestock development project aims to provide support to breeders in all fields and increase the income of poor rural families who depend on livestock by enhancing the services provided, supporting livestock projects and developing the manufacturing and marketing of their products.

Dr. Emil Salloum, project manager in Homs, told SANA Economic Bulletin that many activities within the project have been implemented since the beginning of this year in all components of the project. In the component of the Rural Microfinance Fund, the total amount of loans distributed was 33 million pounds from the Rural Finance Fund with a total of 392 loans distributed. Over 156 sheep, 97 cows, 97 goats and other loans to buy fodder, chickens and fattening sheep, pointing to the establishment of four new rural finance funds in the villages of Al Madaba, Al Shaerat, Al Dardagan and Al Dibba.

In the livestock support and development component, Salloum pointed to the distribution of a number of improved animal heads from the Agricultural Research Center in Salamieh in the villages of Hamrat Al-Kashf, Al-Sankari and Muntar Al-Abal. Guidance and awareness for breeders and rehabilitation courses and training in the areas of animal health, feed and others, pointing to the grants provided to breeders from international organizations "Kalfao" and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, which included laying hens and sheep heads and feed on more than 200 families since the beginning of the year.

In the field of community development, Salloum explained that development sessions were carried out in several villages, dairy and cheese processing courses and first aid courses, schools of sheep and cattle breeders were established and training sessions on the use of modern agricultural techniques in addition to various social awareness workshops.

As for the improvement of pastures and the development of forage sources between Salloum, the smooth cactus was introduced as a fodder alternative and the establishment of courses on the operation of the chopping plant waste in addition to the cultivation of pastoral shrubs of man and dung within the barley fields in the villages of Mentar al-Abel - Abu Khashaba on an area of ​​18 hectares and the distribution of 5000 alfalfa trees Saffron and Umm al-Dawali area of ​​3 hectares, indicating the existence of 32 boxes of seed forage in all areas.

It is noteworthy that the total loans granted since the start of the project in 2012 to date amounted to 119 million benefited 1668 borrowers in various regions.
