Damascus governorate has identified nine areas for the establishment of popular markets for stalls in order to address the irregularities and encroachments on public property and their spread on sidewalks and roads in an irregular manner.
The locations of the markets identified by the governorate according to a decision received by Sana are located in the Zahra area, the first on the inner side of the flower district and the second in Zahra prefabricated beside the entrance of the pedestrian bridge (the entrance of the Syriatel Tower), while the third location in the canals Rigga Square between the market Al-Bayt while the fourth site is located in Rukn al-Din area next to Ibn al-Nafis Fire Brigade.
The governorate identified two sites in the first foot area on the new Daraa highway and the second at the entrance of Nahr Aisha neighborhood beside the national defense headquarters with an area of about 300 square meters. It also identified the seventh and eighth locations in the old Zahran square, two empty public squares between gardens with a total area of about 850 square meters. Within the car park and the eighth in the river Aisha within the organization south of the southern mobile site of an area of 2700 square meters while the ninth and last site is located in Sarouja, the end of King Faisal Street with an estimated area of 950 square meters.
A member of the executive office of the health, social affairs and civil defense sector, Shadi Sukkarieh, told SANA that several designs have been developed for the first four markets, one of which will be selected and will be implemented soon to implement the specified markets, pointing out that these markets will be specific areas and organization. Its location is based on its vitality in terms of the density of its citizens.
Sukkariyah said that these markets will maintain the only source of livelihood for the owners of the rugs on the sidewalks and facilitate the work of the concerned authorities by knowing the real beneficiary of the license works.
The governorate of Damascus is working to remove and end the infringements of unlicensed stalls and stalls on public sidewalks that impede the movement of pedestrians on the sidewalks, especially at peak times, in addition to causing distortion of the public landscape.
