(CNN Spanish) - In Nicaragua, the University Coordinator for Democracy and Justice, which brings together student movements from several universities in the country, convened on Tuesday the second edition of "The March of Mockery", a reissue of the protest Street started in León in 2018, where they used creativity and satire against the government.
With the activity, students demand respect for the human and constitutional rights of citizens and the release of more than 130 opposition protesters detained, as well as the construction of a democratic State.
The police have not officially responded to the students' request, however, they maintain prohibited opposition demonstrations, on the grounds that their conveners alter public order and participated in what they call a failed coup attempt.
The meeting and peaceful mobilizations are a constitutional right. The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in its bulletin number 12, which includes the months of August and September, calls for respect for freedom of assembly and freedom of expression.
Nicaragua continues to be immersed in a socio-political crisis that began in April 2018, which, according to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, has left 328 dead, more than 2,000 injured and tens of thousands of exiles.
The government recognizes 200 dead, and argues to be the victim of an attempted coup d'etat.
