The Budget and Accounts Committee of the People's Assembly discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and its affiliated institutions for 2020, estimated at 27 billion Syrian pounds.
Members of the committee called for reducing agricultural production costs, increasing the prices of strategic crops, supporting modern irrigation projects, re-developing livestock, increasing the budget of the General Authority for Agricultural Research, protecting the Badia from encroachment, increasing support for strategic crops and paying attention to fisheries and poultry sector.
Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmed Al-Qadri said that the ministry is currently working on introducing and using environmentally friendly and free renewable energies such as solar energy in extracting water from wells, in addition to working with the concerned authorities to open new markets for the export of citrus fruits. In order to increase its productivity to achieve self-sufficiency in many goods to ease imports.
