China will not turn a blind eye to unilateral US practices in East Asia and the Pacific that could harm the security of the region as a whole, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said Tuesday.

Sputnik quoted Qian as saying at a press conference that "the US withdrawal from the NPT has shown that it is guided by the policy of unilateral actions and disavow international responsibilities, which will adversely affect global strategic balance and stability, regional peace and security and the international arms control regime." .

"The real purpose of the US withdrawal from the NPT is the desire to break free of the embargo and achieve unilateral military superiority. We strongly oppose it," Qian said. "China will not condone this. We hope the relevant countries will show a responsible attitude, act with care and wisdom and avoid wrong behavior."

Commenting on the possibility of deploying US missiles in the Asia-Pacific region, the Chinese spokesman stressed that China "expresses its strong protest against the deployment of such missiles in the region or the establishment of a base."
