The Committee on Budget and Accounts in the People's Assembly today discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and its affiliated bodies for the year 2020, estimated at one billion and 200 million Syrian pounds.

He called on members of the Committee to pay attention to the elderly and increase the size of social welfare for them, especially the health insurance project and intensify efforts to reduce the phenomenon of begging and homelessness and to find solutions to accelerate the payment of debts of the General Organization for Social Insurance Its basis is to link university education outputs to suit these needs and enhance the knowledge base of social studies.

In response to the members' interventions, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Rima Kadri pointed to the ministry's efforts in cooperation with a number of concerned authorities to curb begging phenomenon as one of the worst forms of child labor.The ministry works on monitoring begging cases and directing a number of targeted programs to empower needy families.

The Minister pointed out that a number of new projects were included in the budget next year, including the creation of a role and offices to combat begging and homelessness in the provinces after the ministry activated the offices of combating begging and homelessness in a number of governorates, in addition to the creation of community centers that provide services to people at the level of neighborhoods and regions. The Ministry directed to support and empower youth in its projects, where the implementation of 8 youth empowerment centers and career guidance centers in the governorates has been completed.
