(CNN Spanish) - The person responsible for the construction of part of a school in Mexico City that collapsed due to the 2017 earthquake was arrested on Wednesday for the crime of manslaughter, according to a statement from the City Attorney's Office. Mexico.

According to the authorities, the detainee, who was not identified by the authorities, approved the security and operation for the illegal construction of an apartment in the upper part of the school.
In addition, the statement details that the construction director said that “no tests were required to guarantee the structural safety of the school and failed to verify the safety of the structure through tests
of load ”.
The detainee is now available to a judge who will determine his legal status.
