The European Institute for Cooperation and Development (EIDO) and the iCORE volunteer youth team in cooperation with the executive committee of the General Sports Union branch and the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Sweida launched the “Green Living” initiative to rehabilitate the first sustainable environmental park in the province.
The initiative, which is being carried out within one of the gardens of Al Mazraa Sports City, includes cleaning and weeding the garden, planting it with evergreen plants, installing seats of environmental waste in it, allocating containers for sorting waste and a fund to convert organic waste into compost to fertilize the soil.
In a statement to SANA reporter, the coordinator of community initiatives at the European Institute in Suwaida, Atta said the activity comes within the framework of encouraging youth initiatives and creative creative ideas and pushing young people to shoulder their responsibilities towards society.
Bab Hilal, one of the founders of the iCore youth team, said that the initiative is in line with the idea of sustainable development and came after the team undergoes a training course at the European Institute on how to implement community initiatives.
She pointed out that the goal of the initiative is to spread the idea of sustainable eco-parks, noting that a site has been chosen to witness a continuous movement to implement, while Cheb Hamoud Al-Saneeh noted the facilities provided for the success of the initiative, which will spread its idea to other sites in the coming period.
