During a meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the permanent members of the Russian Security Council, participants stressed the need to continue the work of the constitutional discussion committee with the participation of the delegation supported by the Syrian government and other delegations in Geneva without external pressure.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that during the meeting, a positive evaluation of the first meeting of the Constitutional Discussion Committee was held in Geneva and stressed that the future of Syria should be decided by the Syrians themselves.

The work of the Constitution Discussion Committee began in Geneva yesterday with the participation of the 150 members representing the delegation supported by the Syrian government and the delegation of other parties and the civil society delegation by 50 members for each delegation.

“The meeting also discussed a number of internal Russian issues,” Peskov said.

The meeting was attended by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, President of the Presidential Administration Anton Vaino, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, and the heads of the Federal Security Agency and the Foreign Intelligence Agency Alexander Portnikov and Sergey Nareshkin.
