The Pyongyang regime has confirmed Thursday's latest missile test. Purpose of the weapon system is to destroy "with super force group targets of the enemy" in a surprise attack.

In its latest weapons test, the self-proclaimed nuclear power North Korea has itself tested a "super large" multi-rocket launcher system. The test on Thursday had been successful, reported state media on Friday.

The forces in South Korea had spoken shortly after the test of two "unknown projectiles" that North Korea had fired towards the open sea. Japan's Ministry of Defense had suspected North Korea could have tested two short-range ballistic missiles.

Tests with ballistic missiles are prohibited by the country, which has repeatedly tested atomic bombs by UN resolutions. Such rockets are typically ground-to-surface missiles that can carry a conventional, chemical, biological or nuclear warhead.

Kim Jong Un appeared to be satisfied

The test proved that the "fire system" worked perfectly, it was now said in the North Korean media. The purpose of the weapon system super-large multi-rocket launcher is to destroy "with super force group targets of the enemy" in a surprise attack. Ruler Kim Jong Un was satisfied after being informed about the test.

North Korea has repeatedly tested rockets including ballistic missiles in recent months. The tests are also seen in South Korea as a potential means to increase pressure on the US in the dispute over the North Korean nuclear weapons program.

New talks at the working level between North Korea and the US ended on 5 October in Sweden with no tangible result. The Communist leadership in Pyongyang, among other things, calls for a relaxation of international sanctions. According to observers, Thursday's missile test shows North Korea's frustration over the lack of concessions in the nuclear talks.
