The theme of the day: The fight of streaming services
The big entertainment companies are gearing up: With Apple TV + today is a new provider in the race to compete with the streaming giant Netflix and Amazon Prime. The group has put a lot of money in the seven new series, which can be streamed internationally today. A documentary is also included.
Disney + will start in the US on November 12th. In May 2020, the mega-platform HBO Max by WarnerMedia should be ready to attack. Streaming Wars is raging: Since Netflix released its first self-produced series seven years ago, streaming has become a multi-billion dollar business. The media scientist Susanne Marshall explains in an interview how the television behavior of Germans has changed as a result - and what can be expected from the new providers in the future.
The market is fiercely contested: Companies have invested so much money in expanding their business internationally this year than ever before. Netflix launched series such as "The Spy", released with "El Camino" a Breaking Bad successor as a movie. Amazon Prime scored points with the glamor product "Modern Love". Apple TV + promises series such as "The Morning Show" with Jennifer Aniston on the pitfalls of American breakfast television and a remake of the fantasy series "Incredible Stories" directed by Steven Spielberg.
