His name is high on a death list: The Green politician Cem Özdemir has been threatened with a murder report. He received a corresponding e-mail from suspected right-wing extremists.

The Green politician Cem Özdemir has allegedly received an e-mail from a right-wing extremists with a concrete death threat, according to a media report. He was the first name on a death list, it was said in late October in the letter of the group "nuclear weapons Division Germany" to the office of the Turkish-born member of the Bundestag. The group is an offshoot of the US-American neonate network "Nuclear Weapons Division" (AWD).

The newspapers of the Funke-Mediengruppe quote from the e-mail available to them. It states, among other things: "At the moment we are planning on how and when we will execute you, at the next public rally, or will intercept them from our place of residence."

The 53-year-old former Greens leader forwarded the e-mail to the Bundestag police and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). He has been threatened by Turkish nationalists in the past because of his sharp criticism of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and receives long-term personal protection.

At the request of the newspapers, the BKA generally referred to an opinion issued last year: "The threat of extreme right-wing and right-wing terrorist acts in the Federal Republic of Germany remains at an abstractly high level, even after the announcement of the existence of a German branch of the AWD."

Özdemir told the newspapers: "I can count on escort protection by the BKA, but what about all the local politicians and the volunteers who are being attacked and have no personal protection?" It must be possible to enter the field, in the bus and at the company party for an open society, without getting hate comments on the social networks.

Only two weeks ago it had become known that the CDU politician Mike Mohring has again received a death threat. Right-wing extremists had demanded of him to discontinue his election campaign in Thuringia, the politician said in a video. And further: "We must not leave room for those who are afraid, but confidence must win."
