Donald Trump criticizes the governor of California for the bush fires

2019-11-03T20:25:52.925Z

For weeks it burns in California. Now, US President Donald Trump has interfered - and made questionable allegations.

US President Donald Trump has sharply attacked the governor of California in connection with the fires in the state. Democrat Gavin Newsom has done a "terrible job in forest management," Trump wrote on Twitter.

California, however, controls only a small percentage of forest land in the state. The largest part is managed by the federal government. In addition, neither of the two major fires is on forest land. However, this does not stop Trump from blaming Newsom on the responsibility for the fires: "I told him from the first day we met that he had to 'clean' his forest floors no matter what his bosses, the environmentalists, demand of him. "

The Governor of California, @GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management. I told him from the first day we met that he had to "clean up" his his shoes, the environmentalists, DEMAND of him. Must do burns and cut fire stopper .....

In no other state does it burn so much, Trump continued. He also threatened Newsom, California in bush fires in the future no longer financially support.

Already last year, Trump blamed California's forestry administration for the frequent fires. The US President said in November 2018 that in Finland, great importance was attached to raking the forest floor to prevent the rapid spread of fires. Finnish President Sauli Niinisto later said that he had briefly explained to Trump the merits of Finnish forestry. He does not remember though, Harken mentions to.

Experts also disagreed with Trump's assessment. The forest fire researcher Henrik Lindberg said the "New York Times" according to which the secret of the Finnish Forestry Administration lies among other things in an early warning system. The "warmer, drier climatic conditions, especially in the north of California" would play a role in the increasingly intense bushfires in the state, said climate scientist and ecologist Tim Brown in an interview with SPIEGEL.

Governor Newsom did not seem to be impressed by Trump's threats. "You do not believe in climate change, you are excluded from this conversation," he wrote on Twitter.
