SPIEGEL government monitor: Spahn and Giffey are the most popular ministers

2019-11-04T15:04:47.431Z

While a power struggle is raging in the CDU, Jens Spahn presents himself as a political expert. That seems to come: In SPIEGEL government monitor, he is directly in front of Franziska Giffey - the Chancellor slipped off against it.

Jens Spahn is currently very busy. The Minister of Health recently called for a debate on organ donation, a ban on advertising cosmetic surgery, and prohibition of treatment for homosexuality. And also in the discussion about the basic pension mixes the CDU politician.

Spahn presents himself in these weeks as diligent specialist politician - in a time, in which above all dispute and power struggles determine the headlines about the CDU. The emphasized objectivity obviously arrives. In SPIEGEL government monitor Spahn was able to grow significantly. He is now ranked one, has displaced the Chancellor there.

The SPIEGEL government monitor shows in cooperation with the opinion research institute Civey the satisfaction of the population with the government, the coalition parties and especially with the individual ministers and the chancellor. To compare the representative ratings, Civey uses a scoring method. (Read more about the procedure here.) The best possible index is 200, the weakest result would be -200.

Immediately behind Spahn is Franziska Giffey. The SPD politician thus remains one of the most popular politicians in the country. The news that the Social Democrat may keep her doctorate could only partially influence the outcome of the survey. Presumably, the decision of the FU Berlin should not hurt the family minister. Giffey was actually considered a potential candidate for the SPD presidency. However, when doubts about her dissertation came up, she decided not to apply.

The survey also shows two clear losers: Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose leadership style it had recently criticized again, slipped from first to fourth place.

Foreign Minister Heiko Maas experiences a veritable crash. Its value is now -73, in September it was -52. The Social Democrat had recently come under fire because, together with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Cavusoglu, he had ironed out the Syria plan of Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. Maas had "thrown Ankara" on the neck, it was said about.

Tail light in the government monitor, however, remains a politician of the CSU: Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer.
