The Budget and Accounts Committee of the People's Assembly discussed today the investment budget of the Ministry of Higher Education and its affiliated entities for 2020, estimated at 29.143 billion and 450 thousand Syrian pounds.
In their interventions, the committee members called for increasing support for university hospitals, improving university housing, building new housing units to accommodate the increasing numbers of students, reviewing the law regulating universities and the mechanism of renting medicines and medical devices, and expanding the children's hospital in Damascus to meet the pressure obtained from all governorates.
In response to the members' interventions, Minister of Higher Education Dr. Bassam Ibrahim stressed that the government provides great social support to the education sector, which includes about 800 thousand students despite the difficult challenges and circumstances that Syria has experienced. Parallel to the special education, pointing to the existence of a project for the rehabilitation of university housing, especially in Aleppo.
