Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said China rejects US accusations about its relationship with ASEAN countries, which claimed that Beijing is using intimidation to prevent them from exploiting marine resources.
Responding to the accusation by US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, Shuang said China rejects the remarks, stressing that the relationship between China and ASEAN countries is one of cooperation and partnership.
Shuang pointed out that the remarks of the US side are very similar to what Washington is doing in the South China Sea, explaining that the speech of US officials replaces wrong with right and distorts the reputation of other countries.
Due to the joint efforts of China and ASEAN countries, the current situation in the South China Sea has remained generally stable as the two sides maintain good communication and cooperation on maritime issues, Shuang said.
Shuang called on the United States not to stir up strife and try to negatively affect cooperation in East Asia, where the countries of the region have the will, ability and confidence to jointly safeguard peace and stability.
