Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Tuesday that the US withdrawal from the climate agreement is seriously undermined by being the first country in terms of the amount of air pollution.
"It will be very difficult to talk about the effectiveness of the Paris climate agreement if the United States withdraws from it," Peskov told reporters.
The administration of US President Donald Trump earlier in the day submitted to the United Nations the necessary papers for the US withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, the first official step in a year-long process to get out of this global agreement aimed at combating climate change, making the United States the only economic power outside Climate Treaty.
The Paris Climate Agreement is the first comprehensive international agreement on climate protection reached on December 12, 2015 in Paris after protracted negotiations between representatives of 195 countries and committing to contain the rate of global warming.
