(CNN Spanish) - The Brazilian Government reported that its border protection program set a new seizure record.
The Federal Revenue Secretariat and the Office of Institutional Security reported that until the middle of the third quarter of the year they have seized 34 tons of cocaine and 589 firearms.
The Brazilian Federal Police reported that in an operation on the Paraná River they managed to suspend the smuggling of 150,000 cigarettes per day.
According to estimates by the authorities, this illegal activity would have represented for the criminal organizations earnings estimated at US $ 1,120 million, according to the Secretariat of Integrated Operations of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security of Brazil.
The border security program was created in Brazil during 2016.
