Contracting 61 road transport projects since the beginning of the year

The General Organization for Road Transport is a vital facility for the national economy as it is responsible for the main road network for investment, maintenance and development.

On the Foundation's projects and implementation rates, Eng. Lucinda Dahdouh, assistant director general, said in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that the percentage of spending from local finance reached 100 percent and the actual completion rate was 107.2 percent of the final appropriation.

Dahdouh pointed out that the value of the work completed during 2019 according to the contractual prices amounted to about 22 billion SP, of which more than 14 billion pounds for maintenance work and about 8 billion pounds for construction distributed to all provinces, pointing out that the plan of the Foundation for 2019 included the implementation of 96 projects for all works (Periodic maintenance and cleaning works and rain drainage) in addition to the work of traffic safety while contracting for the end of the third quarter of this year to implement 61 projects.

Dahdouh pointed out that 23,750 different road signs have been manufactured and installed since the beginning of the year, in addition to planning and implementing thermal road paint for 327 km along Damascus, Beirut, Homs and Tartous roads.

Regarding the studies, Dahdouh pointed out the preparation of a descriptive and technical file for the rehabilitation of the local road links that have been modified to centralize the number of 17 links and complete the completion of the digital map of the central roads in the governorates (Daraa - Sweida - Quneitra - Damascus - Homs - Hama - Tartous - Lattakia - Rif Damascus), where the kilometer sites implemented for maintenance contracts completed during the previous years have been downloaded and the studies projects were contracted in the 2019 plan, the most important of which is the development of executive solutions for the treatment of slippages in Al-Quraaniya, Al-Mosharafa, and Beit Yashout, Lattakia.

As for the projects that have been completed, Dahdouh confirmed the completion of the project of exposing the old Damascus-Homs road from the industrial city to the Qutaifa junction with a length of 10 km and Shamsin knot project on the Damascus-Homs highway which is a bridge over 12 meters wide and 53 meters long. Homs-Tartous highway, a 35 m underpass, 12 m wide and 5.25 m light opening, which was inaugurated on 24-10-2019.

Dahdouh added that a number of vital projects are being implemented, the most important of which is the rehabilitation of Tartous-Drekish road with a length of about 26 km. Three phases and the development of the Homs-Salamieh road with a total length of 43 km, where the completion rate reached 52 percent, Hama-Salamieh with a length of 25.3 km, the completion rate was 70 percent, and the Sheikh Mansour tunnel project on the Kasab-Lattakia highway and the completion rate reached 55 percent.

It is noteworthy that the General Organization for Road Transport created by Decree No. 209 of 2003 as a development service institution that replaced the Ministry of Transportation and is responsible for international roads that connect the country to neighboring countries and the main roads between the provincial centers and border roads with neighboring countries and roads that serve international and major roads.
