The choir of joy carried bouquets of love and joy to Damascus Central Prison and spread it in the hearts of its inmates at a ceremony titled “The Melody of Hope”.
The ceremony, in which the prison inmates interacted with singing and applause, was held in cooperation with the prison's cultural center and in partnership with the Amal Ensemble composed of some prison inmates.
Father Elias Zahlawi, the founder of the choir of joy, said in a speech to the prison inmates, “We wanted to bring you some joy as it affects heaven because we sing for life and the freedom that we desire for you to come back to your families and embrace it with joy.” .
Father Zahlawi explained in a press statement that the aim of the event is to communicate with the inmates of Damascus prison and help them to return to their normal lives, stressing that what is required today is to `` cultivate love with each other's hearts so that this love can emerge '' to return Syria better than it was and set an example for the Arab countries that tried to destroy it.
Brigadier General Abdo Karam, head of the Damascus Central Prison Branch, said: “The recent establishment of the Arab Cultural Center in Damascus Central Prison was an embodiment of the prison's saying that it is a place of care and reform, through which monthly and periodic events are held. The life of the inmate ”.

Rasim, another inmate from the Amal Ensemble, said: “Our party was greatly facilitated by the prison administration.
One of the members of the choir of joy expressed her happiness with the arrival of the choir's message by spreading joy to the world and making people happy by singing.
Elias, one of the choir members, said: "We came to prison to convey the message of love and joy to the prisoners and that we are brothers in humanity and the homeland.
It is worth mentioning that the Choir of Joy is a Syrian voluntary choir that follows the Church of Our Lady of Damascus founded by Father Elias Zahlawi in 1977.It started with 55 children of both sexes.The first service was on Christmas Eve of the same year and today includes more than 500 singers between the ages of 7 and 75 years.
