( CNN Spanish) - The 7th Guarantee Court of Santiago de Chile declared Wednesday a complaint against President Sebastián Piñera and all those responsible for alleged crimes of human rights violations committed during protests against the high costs of Life in the southern country.
The complaint against the president was filed by a group of 16 lawyers, who accuse that since the outbreak began, armed forces and police officers would have committed several crimes, including homicides, torture, sexual abuse and illegal detentions.
“What is sought is to demarcate responsibilities in crimes of human rights violations in the authorities. We evaluate that the last responsible authority is the president of the Republic. Notwithstanding the foregoing, there may be other civil authorities and of course military authorities that may also have responsibility, ”one of the lawyers, Óscar Castro, told CNN Chile.
Consulted by CNN, from the presidency of Chile declined to refer to this issue.
Since October 18, Chile is experiencing a deep crisis that has motivated people to carry out various demonstrations in the streets, registering several clashes with police, armed forces, looting and destruction of public property.
So far, at least 20 people have lost their lives as a result of incidents related to these protests.
