French President Emmanuel Macron said Europe could no longer rely on the United States to defend itself, noting that NATO was in "clinical death".
"What we are facing now is the death of the mind of NATO," Macron said in an interview with Britain's The Economist.
"We must now clarify what are the strategic goals of NATO," Macron said, calling for a reinforcement of Europe's defense capability.
Macron last year called on the European Union to avoid dependence on the United States in the security field, pointing to the importance of cooperation with Russia in ensuring the security of Europe.
