2019-11-07T16:10:49.446Z

It is about pictures of Hitler in chats and right graffiti on a toilet: The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution determined after SPIEGEL information against an employee. The person was suspended.

The protection of the Constitution has confirmed on request of SPIEGEL that due to possible right-wing extremist investigations run against an employee. Already since May there was "disciplinary investigations against a member of the staff in connection with possible 'right-wing extremist' activities or contacts". The office did not want to comment on further details.

"This is the first case of this kind, which has become known to me since my official membership," said intelligence chief Thomas Haldenwang the SPIEGEL. "The person was immediately suspended after this case became known." The Federal Office goes "any suspicion of extremism immediately and consistently and with all legally available means," said Haldenwang.

"That's too many individual cases for me"

According to SPIEGEL information possible right-wing extremist statements are in a WhatsApp chat in the room. In the chat group also pictures of Adolf Hitler should have been sent. In addition, in a course outside the authority right graffiti on a toilet have been discovered, but it is still unclear from whom they come from. The course took place on a Bundeswehr site.

The incident is also controversial because the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is currently building a new central office to investigate "right-wing extremist activities in the public service". The Federal Government is reacting to several incidents among police and soldiers in recent years.

"One could say that these are isolated cases," said Haldenwang in October in an interview with the SPIEGEL. "But one can also say, and I think that's too many isolated cases for me to not look at them systematically."
