The UN General Assembly today adopted an overwhelming resolution calling for an end to the economic embargo

New York-Sana

The United Nations General Assembly today adopted an overwhelming resolution calling for an end to the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States against Cuba nearly 60 years ago.

According to Sputnik news agency, 187 of the 193 UN member states voted in favor of the resolution against the Israeli occupation, the United States and Brazil, while two abstained: Colombia and Ukraine.

In its resolution, the General Assembly reiterated its call on all States to avoid the dissemination and application of laws and measures that are inconsistent with their obligations on freedom of trade and navigation, calling on all States to review and repeal all such laws.

The Assembly also requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to submit a report on the implementation of the resolution at the next session of the General Assembly beginning in September 2020.

Washington has imposed an economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba since 1960 because of its policies against US unilateralism and hegemony, the longest in modern history.
