Iran has resumed uranium enrichment in one of its nuclear facilities. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo therefore calls for increased international pressure on Tehran.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called on the international community to step up pressure on Tehran following Iran's recent "nuclear escalation".

The expansion of Iranian nuclear program activities has led to concerns that the country wants to "create the option of a rapid nuclear breakthrough," Pompeo wrote on Twitter. The US Secretary of State started his two-day visit to Germany on Thursday.

Iran's plans to increase its nuclear activity at Fordow raise Iran's appreciation for a rapid nuclear breakout. It is now time to reject its nuclear extortion and increase pressure.

With the right know-how and modern centrifuges, uranium can be enriched up to 90 percent in the medium or long term. This would then allow the construction of a nuclear bomb.

Iran's Atomic Energy Agency had recently announced that uranium enrichment at the Fordo nuclear facility had been officially resumed. This represents another step towards the country's renunciation of the international nuclear agreement, which the United States unilaterally terminated.
