Beirut-Sana
Lebanese President General Michel Aoun has announced the intention of the Lebanese parliament to study reform laws to combat corruption.
Aoun said during his meeting today with the head of the EU mission in Lebanon, Ambassador Ralf Tarraf, that `` the House of Representatives intends to examine the reform laws that have been referred to it, especially dealing with the issue of combating corruption and lifting immunity and holding accountable those responsible for financial waste and tax evasion that occurred more than twenty years ago. ''
Aoun said that the next government will work to implement the content of the economic paper approved by the outgoing government.
Aoun said yesterday that the new Lebanese government "will include ministers who are experienced and competent and reputable and free from suspicions of corruption," noting that "investigations will be conducted with current and former officials" on suspicion of corruption.
Since the 17th of last month, many Lebanese areas have witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins in protest against the deteriorating living and economic conditions.
In a separate context, Aoun pointed out that the process of returning Syrian refugees from Lebanon to Syria is continuing in batches.
