Beijing: Commitment to dialogue to solve Middle East problems while countering terrorism

BEIJING - Chinese special envoy to the Middle East Zhai Jun stressed the need to adhere to basic standards

The special envoy of the Chinese government for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, stressed the necessity of adhering to the basic standards of international relations and pursuing dialogue as a way to solve the problems of the region while committing to work to fight terrorism and stabilize it.

"Peace and security in the Middle East are linked to global stability and development," Zhai told a press conference at the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

He pointed out that the history and reality of the Middle East has proved repeatedly that the pursuit of short-term interest and unilateral pressure or the use of force is not conducive to solving problems but causes permanent damage to the region.

Zhai stressed that dialogue and consultations will continue to be held and solutions that are compatible with the realities of the Middle East, taking into consideration the interests of all parties, commitment to development and security, combating terrorism and promoting security in the region.

On the Palestinian issue, Zhai called for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions, with attention to development issues and increased international assistance to the Palestinians.

The Chinese envoy stressed the need to maintain the nuclear agreement signed with Iran and the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action "which requires all parties to show courage and determination to maintain the agreement."

China announced the appointment of Zhai as the Chinese government's special envoy for Middle East affairs last September.
