(CNN) - Politicians around the world are often accused of evading difficult questions, but a local mayor in Chile took things to the next level on Thursday by literally fleeing from journalists.

Evelyn Matthei, mayor of the Providencia commune in Santiago, Chile, had been approached by journalists on the street and was answering questions when she suddenly ran away from them.

Chile has been shaken by protests in recent weeks, and Matthei has ruled against the government's handling of the crisis.

He was also asked to be Minister of the Government in the reorganization of the cabinet of President Sebastián Piñera, but rejected his approach.

Dressed in a yellow safety vest, Matthei left the journalist group with a quick movement. "It has escaped," said a local Mega channel correspondent. "She doesn't want to talk anymore." According to the channel, she had planned to help drive street traffic.

Matthei, 65, soon achieved a small advantage over the surprised press corps, which pursued her.

"Fortunately, we are physically fit," the correspondent said as he hurried to reach her. Once neck and neck, he asked her if she felt that the press had treated her unfairly, only inspiring Matthei to accelerate and run once more.

The surreal scene ended a few seconds later, when the mayor slowed down to walk, allowing the journalist to ask another question while the video was cut.

Matthei then posted the clip in his official Twitter feed, with the tune of Rocky's song. "A little exercise is always a good way to start the morning," he wrote.

"We will win the race against destruction and vandalism, and we will return to Providencia standing next to @Muni_Provi [the local council]."
