Right-wing group: US neo-Nazi persecuted activist to Germany

2019-11-08T13:08:07.826Z

Because of the threat of right-wing extremists, an American activist had moved to Germany. But in this country she was again threatened by SPIEGEL information.

The far-right "nuclear weapons division" (AWD), an American neo-Nazi organization, pursues its opponents as far as Germany. Last year, the US Federal Police informed the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) that an American activist living in Germany was in danger of being threatened by the group.

The person concerned confirmed to the SPIEGEL that in November 2018 she received the message from the police to report urgently.

An official later reported to her that an AWD supporter had traveled to the Federal Republic to possibly do violence to her. The woman had previously moved to Germany because of extreme right-wing threats.

According to SPIEGEL research, a German branch of the AWD and a similar group named "Feuerkrieg Division" has at least half a dozen members.

In an e-mail from November 2018, the neo-Nazis write: "We do not want to hide the fact that we are still very small and are in the initial phase of the formation of the German nuclear weapons division." It goes on to say: "Our focus is on violence and killing and on propaganda that leads to such violence and killing."

The organization hit the headlines in recent days because Green politicians Claudia Roth and Cem Özdemir received drug mails sent in the name of the "Nuclear Weapons Division". Whether the neo-Nazi group is actually behind these death threats or freeloaders used their name is unclear.

This topic comes from the new SPIEGEL magazine - available at the kiosk from Saturday morning and every Friday at SPIEGEL + and in the digital magazine edition.
