(CNN) - Artist and designer Kanye West launched a new idea to change his name and, frankly, it's hard to know if he's kidding.
In a surprise appearance at the 2019 Fast Company Innovation Festival, West hinted that he may legally change his name to "Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West" for a while.
"When people say it's rude to call themselves a billionaire, they may legally change my name to Christian Genius Billionaire Kanye West for a year until everyone understands exactly what it is," the rapper told senior Fast Company writer Mark Wilson.
"It's going to be very difficult to write," Wilson joked.
"It will be on the vehicle's license plate," West said.

The extravagant style of West's interviews often results in flashy headlines like this.
Last year, the singer caused controversy by saying that slavery was an option.
In 2016, he asked Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, 1 billion dollars claiming that he had a debt of 53 million dollars.
In 2009 West - to promote a shoe brand - he said he would change his name to Martin Louis the King Jr.
As if that were not enough, in 2006 he posed for Rolling Stone with a crown of thorns and comparing himself to Jesus.
The name change was part of a broader discussion
Before proposing the alleged name change, West was talking about how he recovered from the aftermath of 2016, a difficult year for him, and how his brand bets on innovative and environmentally friendly solutions.
West seems to have broken down in the fall of 2016, shortly after the launch of its clothing line “Yeezy Season 4”. A month after that event, his wife Kim Kardashian West was stolen with a gun in Paris. That same year, in November, the artist was hospitalized for exhaustion just hours after canceling his tour.
Now, West has focused on a series of ventures such as the premiere of his new album, called "Jesus is King," and a series of changes in Yeezy, his design brand.
During the interview, West spoke of the recent decision to move Yeezy's headquarters to Cody, Wyoming. The company's new property, with more than 1,600 hectares in the United States, will allow the brand to test methods to grow its own materials, West said.
