One person has been killed and at least 100 homes destroyed in forest fires in eastern Australia.
Reuters quoted the New South Wales Rural Fire Service as saying that firefighters had found one body in a car and two others were missing.
The fire department on Tuesday issued a record number of emergency warnings, announcing 17 serious fires after strong winds and droughts quickly spread fires.
In Queensland, northern Australia, thousands of Sunshine Coast residents spent the night in evacuation centers after authorities asked them to leave, and New South Wales saw six serious fires out of a total of 70 statewide fires.
Australia now faces one of the worst seasons of forest fires, while parts of it suffer the worst droughts.
