(CNN Spanish) - On Friday afternoon, the Tactical Operations Unit, UTOP, of the department of Cochabamba, mutinied in its garrison, amid the political and social crisis that Bolivia is going through after the elections of last October 20 questioned by the opposition and citizens for alleged fraud, following warnings about the process by observers from the OAS and the EU.

After 17 days of conflict, mobilizations and marches, an indefinite national strike, the closing of borders and after the death of 3 citizens and 346 injured nationwide, according to the ombudsman, the uniformed men rebelled on Friday in the Cochabamba city.

The uniforms called for the resignation of the national commander, Colonel Raúl Grandi, and said they disagree with the government's determinations.

Police general commander Yuri Calderón reported later Friday that he appointed Jaime Edwin Zurita to replace Grandi, according to information from the ABI agency.

Citizens and civic groups that are mobilized in the streets, support the police riot in that city.

So far the government authorities have not spoken.
