Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said today that the US policy towards Iran after its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal led to the reduction of the latter's obligations related to the agreement.

"The result of pressure and sanctions by Washington on Iran led to its rejection of commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to modernize the Arak reactor," Sputnik quoted Ryabkov as telling reporters on the sidelines of the fourth Moscow nuclear non-proliferation conference.

"Sub-regional sanctions that are extraterritorially applied by Washington recklessly and on a large scale impede normal functioning in many cases," Ryabkov said.

"The US desire to destroy the deal must be seen, not Iran's statements," he said.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Wednesday that Iran had begun enriching uranium at the Fordow facility in line with the fourth step of reducing its nuclear obligations, in accordance with the nuclear deal and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

US President Donald Trump announced in May last year that his country would withdraw from the nuclear deal signed between Iran and the P5 + 1 in 2015 and reinstate sanctions against Tehran despite EU opposition.
