The situation in Hong Kong escalates again: During a scuffle, a police officer shot at a young man - and hit him in the upper body.

During the anti-government protests in Hong Kong, another protester was shot by a policeman. Hong Kong's hospital authorities announced on Monday that the young man was in critical condition. According to the Hong Kong newspaper "South China Morning Post", the 21-year-old was hit in the chest on Monday morning.

A video shared on social media shows a policeman directing his gun at close range to a demonstrator. It comes to a scuffle. As another demonstrator approaches the officer from the side, he shoots at him and fires two more shots in a different direction.

Since the outbreak of anti-government protests in June, it was the third time that a protester was shot by the police. Monday's incident took place amidst a series of new clashes between protesters and the police. The protesters blocked roads in several places in the city, put out fires and threw cobblestones. The police used tear gas and rubber bullets.

Monday's protests rekindled the death of a student on Friday. The 22-year-old died after being knocked over by a parking garage last Monday on the verge of protest. He suffered severe head injuries. Although it is not clear why the student crashed, the demonstrators blamed the police.

The exact course of the incident is still unclear

Some media had reported that the man was an activist and had wanted to flee from police, and then seriously injured in the fall. Some demonstrators demanded "revenge" and called the police "murderers." Others wore white roses as a sign of mourning, rallies and vigils were heard at several places in the city.

Since June 9, the Hong Kong people are demonstrating against their own government. They criticize a growing influence of the Beijing leadership on the former British Crown Colony. Again and again it comes to heavy clashes of police and demonstrators.
