The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) plays a pivotal role in defending multilateralism in the world, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said.
"A world of divisions and rifts is not a sustainable one," Guterres told AFP at the opening of the 40th UNESCO General Conference in Paris. "In this context, UNESCO plays a pivotal role in bringing the world closer."
He called for the preservation of a “multipolar world”.
It is noteworthy that both the United States and the Israeli occupation entity announced their withdrawal from UNESCO because of its acceptance of Palestine and the condemnation of the Executive Council of the organization violations of the Israeli occupation authorities continued and systematic against historical and heritage sites in occupied Jerusalem.
