Iran has condemned US interference in Bolivia's internal affairs.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said in a statement today that "any attempt to change governments forcibly and outside the legal framework, especially through foreign intervention is condemned and unacceptable," stressing that Iran believes that any change should reflect the will of the people through the ballot box and within the framework of the law.
Moussaoui expressed the hope that the people and the various political factions in Bolivia, by utilizing the political potential of their country, will be able to reach a peaceful solution to the internal situation in the country.
Bolivian President Evo Morales announced on Wednesday his resignation after a three-week wave of protests against a fourth term.
Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Court formally announced on May 26 that Morales won a new presidential term with 47.08 percent of the vote compared to 36.51 percent for his opponent Carlos Mesa, but the opposition refused to acknowledge it despite the confirmation by Supreme Electoral Court Judge Edelphonso Mamani of "full transparency of Bolivia ”.
