Jerusalem (CNN) - A senior commander of the Gaza Strip militant group, Islamic Jihad, was killed in an Israeli air strike, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Prime Minister's Office said on Tuesday.

And, in Damascus, Syria, he says that another Israeli air strike killed at least two people, including the son of the Islamic Jihad leader, Akram al-Ajouri.

The movements clearly ignite the tension along the border between Israel and Gaza. Baha Abu al-Ata died in a night attack on a house in Shajaiyah, in Gaza City. His wife Asma Abu Al-Ata was also killed, while seven other people, including children, were injured, Palestinian Ministry of Health officials said.

Abu al-Ata was responsible for rocket launching from Gaza in recent months, the Prime Minister's Office said shortly after the attack, in addition to planning numerous other attacks against Israel.

"Abu al-Ata was promoting preparations to commit immediate terrorist attacks in various ways against Israeli civilians and IDF troops over the past few days," says an IDF statement. "Al-Ata trained terror squads for infiltration and sniper attacks, drone launching and rocket launching at different distances."

Islamic Jihad promised to avenge the murder, saying in a statement: "The response to this crime will have no limits ... the occupation will be responsible for this aggression."

Islamic Jihad leader Khaled al-Batsh said Tuesday at a press conference that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "will pay a heavy price."

Hamas, the militant group that runs Gaza, also said that the death of Abu Al-Ata "would not happen without an answer."

More than 100 rockets were launched into Israel from Gaza, with about 20 intercepted, after the attack that killed Abu al-Ata, the IDF said. Two people suffered minor injuries on the eastern outskirts of Ashdod, according to the Israeli emergency service United Hatzalah.

Israel ordered the closure of all schools and workplaces in Tel Aviv, as well as in cities near Gaza in the south of the country.

In Damascus, the son of another Islamic Jihad leader, Akram al-Ajouri, died in night attacks, according to Syria's state news agency, SANA. Another person died and 10 others were injured, including Ajuri's daughter, according to SANA.

SANA blamed Israel for the attack and said three missiles were launched in Damascus from airplanes. The IDF did not offer comments when CNN contacted them.
