In Hesse, three alleged supporters of the terrorist militia "Islamic State" (IS) have been arrested for planning an attack. Access and searches were made in Offenbach, as the public prosecutor in Frankfurt am Main announced. Men between the ages of 21 and 24 are said to have made preparations for an act involving explosives or firearms.
According to prosecutors, a 24-year-old German of Macedonian descent is considered the prime suspect. He had "basic components for the production of explosives" worried and searched the Internet for firearms, the authority said.
Also accused are two men of Turkish nationality aged 21 and 22 years. All three should be presented on Tuesday to a judge who should decide on pre-trial detention. During the searches, "numerous pieces of evidence" had been found.
Attack should be committed in the Rhine-Main area
The men wanted to commit an investigation in the Rhine-Main area according to investigators. They said they had already made themselves known to other people as an IS follower earlier, they said. They are accused of preparing a serious criminal offense.
The raid involved some 170 officials, including special forces. In addition to data carriers and written documents with the main suspect "explosives-relevant substances and equipment" were confiscated, as the prosecutor further communicated.
