Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said the United States was behind the coup

Caracas-Mexico City-Sana

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has confirmed that the United States is behind the coup in Bolivia.

"We condemned the coup against President Evo Morales, which was arranged and financed from within the White House," Maduro said in a speech broadcast on Venezuelan national television today.

Maduro stressed that the United States has been behind all the coups in this region over the past century and said: "If you want to fight, we are ready to fight to defend our homeland and peace and sovereignty."

For its part, Mexico condemned the coup in Bolivia, saying it considers Morales the legitimate president of Bolivia and will not recognize a military government in Bolivia.

`` We consider what happened in Bolivia as a coup because the army asked the president to resign, which violates the country's constitutional order, '' Abrard said, adding that his country intends to call for an emergency meeting of the Organization of American States, which has been silent on these developments.

Morales announced his resignation yesterday and said in a tweet on Twitter: "I announce to the world and the Bolivian people that a police officer said publicly that he had received instructions to implement an illegal arrest warrant issued against me," noting that the putschists destroy the rule of law.

Mexico said yesterday it had agreed to grant asylum to Morales, where Ebrard said late Monday that a Mexican military plane had "taken off… with President Morales on board."

Bolivia's Supreme Electoral Tribunal formally announced on May 26 that Morales won a new presidential term with 47.08 percent of the vote, compared to 36.51 percent for his opponent Carlos Mesa, but the opposition refused to acknowledge it despite the confirmation by Supreme Electoral Court Judge Edelphonso Mamani of "full transparency of the electoral system in Bolivia ”.
