Indian Foreign Minister Supraminam Jay Shankar reiterated his country's full support to Syria in its war on terrorism and its readiness to contribute to its reconstruction, stressing the need to resolve the crisis politically by the Syrians themselves without any external interference.
During a meeting with Dr. Mohsen Bilal, a member of the Central Command of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Shankar pointed out that the distinguished and deep relations link Syria and India.
The Indian foreign minister expressed his country's readiness to support Syria and its people in the reconstruction phase after finalizing the memorandums of understanding and agreements to be signed between the two countries during the meetings of the Syrian-Indian Joint Committee scheduled to be held in March next year.
For his part, Dr. Bilal pointed out that Syria is undergoing a terrorist war and Turkish interference in Syrian internal affairs and support the Turkish regime terrorists in Idlib and northeastern Syria, noting that Syria has been able, with the help of its allies and friendly countries, to eliminate terrorism and clear most of the Syrian territory.
Dr. Bilal pointed out that Syria welcomes the support of friendly countries such as India for the reconstruction and enhancement of education, expertise and continuous training of Syrian competencies, expressing Syria's appreciation to India for its side in its war on terrorism.
He also met Indian Vice President Venkaya Naidu, who expressed his country's rejection of any foreign interference in the affairs of Syria and India's keenness on the unity of Syrian territories and support for a political solution to the crisis there.
Naidu stressed the need to continue fighting terrorism until its roots and sources are eliminated as a scourge against all humanity, expressing hope for the return of security and stability to all parts of Syria.
"India and Syria share the characteristics of tolerance, love and brotherhood and have never been aggressive states and have always stood together against foreign interference in the affairs of other countries," he said.
For his part, Dr. Bilal stressed during the meeting that Syria will win the war on terrorism and restore security and stability to all parts with the help of its allies and friendly countries such as India, which will contribute with other countries of the "BRICS" in the reconstruction process.
The meetings were attended by Dr. Riyad Abbas, Syrian Ambassador to India.
Dr. Bilal arrived in the Indian capital New Delhi this morning for a week-long visit during which he will meet a number of Indian officials and heads of Indian national parties.
