(CNN Spanish) - Leonel García was announced by the Sin Bandera duo with Noel Schajris in 2000. Nine years later they decided to separate and try alone. Garcia released 5 albums and is currently touring with the Mexican duo Camila and with Noel himself.
In the special week of Pop Zone from Las Vegas, because of the twentieth installment of the Latin Grammy 2019 awards, we talked with Leonel, who is nominated in two categories, best pop song, for the song “Dance”, and best album of singer-songwriter, for "Love present."
“This nomination is very exciting for me because the people I most admire in music are singer-songwriters in English and Spanish, and, from a very young age, I started composing songs, I began to see myself as a singer-songwriter and when I nominate in that category, you think you are doing it, ”says the musician.
Marysabel Huston: "Love present" is the album that takes you to the nomination, how was it born?
Leonel García: "The album is the continuation of" Future Love ", which is the first album where I use this pun and now" Last Love "is going to come out next year, a traditional Mexican music album very much my way to see it and with quite original versions. This album was born as a review exercise of my life as a music fan. I love music, I bathe and wherever I go with music. ”

MH: How do you see pop as a genre today?
LG: “It's very interesting because in this era of mergers and the loss of the lines clearly between genres, pop is popular music. Before if there were certain characteristics. Pop was what didn't look like rock and it was like more “strawberry” as we say in Mexico, more light , more fun, more naive. But now there are incredibly interesting pop artists in lyrics, music and production or more interesting that are on the other side as in the alternative or rock. I think it's a time when genres are the artist himself. I like to think that we can unite more at the moment when we divide less. ”
